We back.
Nick (01:12)
It is the height differential. What is that? You're in the middle of my open and talking. We're back on a Thursday night. Hopefully this will hit your, your podcast on Friday morning. That's the six foot six nil. I'm the four foot 10 Nick in a hotel today. Hopefully I'm not, it's only nine 52. So hopefully not keeping people up at the holiday end in Erlanger, Kentucky.
Neil (01:38)
you're R-Liner.
Nick (01:38)
Neil, how's your night?
Lil' Erlanger home with the famous Matt Addy.
Neil (01:41)
Ooh, the knife's good.
I love Matt Ottey, aka The Sloth. Man never got off. When you all were roommates, he... I mean, Bellarmine all time, single game, three point leader, I think, maybe.
Nick (01:46)
St. Henry, all the same to that audience.
Yes?
Yeah. I think you had nine and had.
Neil (01:58)
I mean, AKA he's the sloth. We also call him the sloth because when you all roommates, never got off the couch. But you know, we love Matt Addy. Love Matt Addy. Haven't seen him in 10 years, but love that guy.
Nick (02:02)
Yep. ⁓ We are in the home of Matt Addy as
we are in the home of Matt Addy in Erlanger, Kentucky. I am. You're not. You're back in your basement. You're not upstairs being kicked out because they're putting up the Christmas tree this week. But I'm in.
Neil (02:20)
y'all wanna
see the Christmas tree? Do the listeners or the watchers wanna see the Christmas tree?
Nick (02:26)
So this is why you should be on YouTube.
Neil (02:29)
Here it is.
Nick (02:29)
It's beautiful.
Neil (02:30)
That's the downstairs Christmas tree. Now, to be honest, that is the reject Christmas tree. That's where the kids just put up their random ornaments. The nice...
Nick (02:31)
Absolutely beautiful.
There's no such
thing. Have you ever watched Charlie Brown? There's no such thing as a reject Christmas tree.
Neil (02:45)
⁓ that's the reject Christmas tree. That's the when we put up all the goofy ornaments. That's the one that's in the basement that nobody sees. The normal Christmas tree, where the presents and Santa Claus comes on the chimney, have a fireplace up there. We have the classy Christmas tree, if you will. Everybody has a classy Christmas tree in it. Yeah.
Nick (02:48)
There's no suspense.
So you've got a classy and a
Not to
use the word reject. Downstairs tree, secondary tree, smaller tree. It doesn't have to be reject. Secondary tree. So.
Neil (03:09)
Yeah. Yeah. We'll go secondary tree. That's true. The secondary tree
with all the goofy ornaments that the goofy ornament trees downstairs in the classy Christmas tree is in the nice window upstairs where all can enjoy.
Nick (03:27)
Well, classy, the primary trees normally are in windows, so everybody can enjoy. That's where you put a Christmas tree.
Neil (03:33)
Yeah, that's right.
That's right. Okay.
Nick (03:35)
So
can we want to talk some sports?
Neil (03:38)
Yeah, that's what I'm here for.
Nick (03:39)
A lot of sports this week. We have feast week, which I don't know about you, but feast week has always been one of my favorite weeks of the year. A lot of hoops throughout the day. And that's why I'm an Erlanger, because I'm getting ready to fly down to work the Cayman Islands Classic. growing up, what was your favorite tournament? Oh, God.
Neil (03:43)
This week!
So Nick, Nick, hold on Nick.
Well Nick, before we get into this, so you're going to the Cayman Islands, you're working a men's tournament and a women's tournament. Can you give us a preview of who's down there?
Nick (04:07)
Yes.
Yes.
OK, it's not a loaded field. I will just go ahead and say that. ⁓ Last year on the women's side, we had the likes of TCU. We had Notre Dame, Mississippi State, Utah. It was a good field. This year on the women's side, not as loaded. In the men's tournament, there's only four teams on the men's side.
Neil (04:26)
that's big. Yeah.
Nick (04:42)
So on the men's side, have McNeese, Murray, George Washington, and Middle Tennessee.
And then on the women's side, we have Florida, Memphis, St. John's, Georgia Tech, Miami, Oakey State, G-Dub. So.
Neil (04:55)
⁓ okay.
Okay, so what I'm hearing is the women's side tournament might be a little bit more recognition than the men's Recognition.
Nick (05:12)
Well, last year,
Boston College won the tournament last year and they didn't do much after they won that tournament. They beat a good Boise State team in the final who I think did end up making the NCAA tournament. ⁓ yeah, so last year the men's tournament was a straight eight team tournament where they played three games in three days. This year, it's not the case. ⁓ Everybody's just playing two games.
Teams are trying to get away from the old fashioned Maui invitational where it's three days and three days, or three games in three days.
Neil (05:43)
So it's fine.
Yeah, I get it. But let's get back to Feast Week and how awesome Feast Week is. Like it's... It's Monday through basically Saturday. Multiple tournaments throughout the week. It's daytime college basketball. I mean, let's think about this. It's Thanksgiving week. Everybody's off work on Thursday and Friday. We all, friends and family, are eating some turkey, some dressing, some cranberry sauce, the pumpkin pie.
But Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, half of Wednesday maybe you're at work and you're just lugging through work. You're looking forward to the weekend, but you have college basketball on the TV at all times. And it's good college basketball. The Maui Invitational is on.
Nick (06:34)
And yeah.
Neil (06:35)
Like the Battle for Atlantis is on. The Balmar Classic is on. All of it. And now we have the Vegas, what they call the Player's Championship, the NIL Prize at the end. A lot of good teams playing a lot of good teams. Monday through Friday through Saturday, nonstop college basketball. And I'm here for it.
Nick (06:45)
And that's
Well, and also even now more than ever, because the teams are so different every year, it's an opportunity to get to know these teams. And no, and that's what I love about it is I can remember back in the day that, you know, everybody knows bracketology, right? With Joe, with Joe Linarity, I used to write for the reject. You're talking about reject the reject website called bracketography and
Neil (07:22)
Bracketography? Is that a straight pinky dot com? that a straight pinky dot com? Bracketography?
Nick (07:24)
Yes. So it was, it was not, was, it was kind
of what led into straight pinky.com. Cause I was working for that website and I was like, why not just do this ourselves? But so I would write for bracket photography and I would kind of write previews of all the games in the mouth and the Maui and watch their games before that. And so I would get to know a little bit about them, but that's what I've always liked about these tournaments on feast week is it's an opportunity to see them play two or three times, really get to know them. And then
Neil (07:32)
Okay? Yeah? Okay?
Nick (07:54)
and follow them the rest of the year. And when your team was playing in one of these tournaments, it made it even more exciting because you get to watch a little tournament action, three games in three days in mid-November.
Neil (08:03)
Yeah.
And they're not slack off teams either. These are like power five teams. You're getting the North Carolinas versus Kentuckys. You're getting the North Carolinas Gonzaga's or the Duke versus Kansas. And you're getting like the cream of the crop. You're getting the Arizona's versus, I don't know, let's say who just won the national championship last year, whoever. You're getting the top of the top.
Nick (08:09)
slack off.
Neil (08:34)
These preseason tournaments aren't just nobody versus nobody. This is a good teams playing good teams. You get an early test. is a-
Nick (08:41)
they're all going to the players.
They're all going to the players area now, which is really kind of diminished. The other tournaments would like the Maui. mean, the Maui's field used to be the best of the best. And now this year they just have one top 25 team and that's NC State, who is number 25 in the country. So the area is different, but the games are still exciting. We can kind of look at the fields. We talked about the Maui and
Neil (08:45)
Especially in black.
test.
Nick (09:09)
The matchups opening or Seton Hall against number 25 NC State, USC against Boise State, Washington State against Chaminade. It was always fun to see if Chaminade could pull off the upset in the Maui Classic. And then they close out with Arizona State versus Texas. Yeah, and they win. They've won in the past.
Neil (09:22)
And there he is. There he is.
Do
you remember the biggest shaman on upset of all time?
Nick (09:31)
Now I'll start my head, do you?
Neil (09:32)
Yes, they beat Ralph Sampson's Kansas.
back in the day, don't remember what year it was, but when Ralph Samson was at Kansas, Yes. No.
Nick (09:35)
Last time he played at Houston.
for our Samson Play for Houston.
Neil (09:44)
Are you sure? Danny Manning, sorry, sorry Danny Manning's, Danny Manning's Kansas. Sorry, Chaminade beat Danny Manning's Kansas. And Danny Manning's.
Nick (09:45)
Are you sure? that who you're talking about?
What do you do?
Well, you don't remember that either. You also wouldn't
have remembered Ralph Sampson. ⁓
Neil (10:00)
No, it was
before I was born. Danny Manning's Kansas lost to Chaminade in the Maui Invitation.
Nick (10:07)
Ralph, Ralph Sampson and Deity Manning. Here we go. ⁓ Did they beat Ralph Sampson? I think Ralph Sampson, we might just be completely off the rails. Ralph Sampson played for Virginia. We're completely off the rails.
Neil (10:26)
No, he beat Danny Ra- No. was- Actually, it was Virginia. Hold on! Now- Hold on, now that you think about it. Yes. Chaminade beat Ralph Sampson's Virginia. I knew I was right. You made me think I was wrong.
Nick (10:27)
I know, but we're completely off the road.
It was.
Well.
Well, you say kids, we're just completely, like I said, we're completely off the rails. ⁓
Neil (10:49)
We're gonna edit that out aren't we?
Nick (10:51)
Yes, because that was solved really bad. ⁓ Start off the whole show again.
Neil (10:54)
Let's just restart. Can we restart? We're gonna restart.
No, no, no, no, no. Can you edit while you're on the road?
Nick (11:01)
Let's just open. Yeah, let's just talk about Shaman on so but let's look it up first.
Neil (11:07)
Elm
and I beat, they beat Virginia. Ralph Sampson's Virginia.
Nick (11:11)
They did.
Neil (11:12)
Thank you. I knew that. And you said he would wait for you. What'd I say?
Nick (11:14)
The complete history of
s- We're all drunk. That was all bad.
Chaminades wins. When did they beat Virginia?
Neil (11:24)
genius.
Nick (11:24)
Where? What year?
Neil (11:26)
or whatever else absolutely.
Nick (11:27)
Was it not in the Maui?
Neil (11:28)
ahead of him.
Yes, Shamona definitely beat Ralph Sampson.
Nick (11:31)
But it wasn't a part of the mallet.
Neil (11:33)
It wasn't?
Nick (11:34)
No.
Neil (11:34)
That was just Shamanah's biggest victory ever outside of the M- Why would the hell would they ever play over a team that's not in Maui?
Nick (11:41)
You
Neil (11:42)
1982, Chaminade defeated number one ranked Virginia.
Nick (11:43)
I'm gonna
but it wasn't in his tournament. They also beat Louisville in...
Neil (11:50)
How- when
else are they gonna play them?
Nick (11:53)
They beat Louisville and Chaminade followed the win over the Cavaliers by beating Louisville in 83 and 84.
Neil (11:59)
What have we played in twice?
Nick (12:01)
Yeah. All right, so here's their wins in Maui.
Neil (12:05)
But they beat number one, Virginia. They were number one.
Nick (12:05)
baby.
Yeah,
in 1982.
So you started that off saying, you started off that by saying, do you know who they be? So just start and I'll clip it there. Just stay, go with that.
Neil (12:10)
The silver shorts. Silver shorts.
Nick (12:20)
And then we'll talk about it and we'll be like, I don't really know if that was in Maui or not.
Neil (12:22)
Tell me.
But what was it though? If it wasn't, what was it?
Nick (12:27)
It
was a rough open anyways.
Neil (12:31)
That wasn't that bad. The open was fine.
Nick (12:34)
start off with saying.
You were, you were, wanting to ask the question.
Neil (12:37)
Calm me down.
down below.
So do you know who these shamanod silver swords have beaten in their history?
Nick (12:44)
I mean, I remember, like you cheer for them to win games. So I remember them winning. I don't remember exactly who they beat.
Neil (12:53)
Do you their most famous upset?
Nick (12:54)
I do not.
Neil (12:55)
How about the Ralph Sampson number one lead Virginia Cavaliers back in the 80s?
Nick (13:01)
Do you remember that game?
Do you remember that game?
Neil (13:05)
No, I wasn't even born yet, but I know that's college basketball history.
Nick (13:09)
So I guess that game must have been before the Maui Invitational even started because they have eight wins. I'm looking it up now. They have eight wins in the history of the Maui and Virginia is not one of them. Their first ever win in the Maui was 1984 against Davidson.
But still, I'm
Neil (13:27)
Yeah, I this was 1982
or 83, they beat Ralph Sampson in Virginia. The number one lead, Ralph Sampson in Virginia Cavaliers. Probably, it might be, when you're number one in the country in NCAA Division I and you lose to Chaminade, probably could be, should be the greatest upset of all time.
Nick (13:48)
Well, it's the biggest, I guess the biggest win in their program history. ⁓ It says right here, they beat Louisville the next two years too. They beat Louisville in 83 and 84.
Neil (13:59)
Well, we forget about those.
Nick (14:01)
Yeah, but yeah, that's always the fun part of this tournament is to see if they can pull an upset. obviously the field's a little diminished, so maybe they got chance to make a little run.
Neil (14:14)
I mean, why not? Let the Shamanate Silver Sword get you a Maui Invitational Tournament, even if it's diminished or not. You know, give them a win.
Nick (14:23)
So we talked about the Maui being diminished a little bit, and that's because of the creation of the Players' Era Men's Championship. And this tournament has one, two, three, four, five, six, seven top 20 teams. It has the number two team, number two Houston, number one Michigan.
Neil (14:35)
Yes.
Nick (14:48)
Number 11, Alabama, number 14, St. John's, number 16, Iowa State, and number 20, Tennessee, ⁓ number 19, Gonzaga. So the only team in this field that's not ranked right now is San Diego State.
Neil (15:02)
mean, for college basketball, this tournament is actually a really, really good thing. Because I think at the end of the tournament, the champion gets some NIL prize money. So basically, if your team wins, your players are getting paid, I think is how this works. And so you're gonna see more and more top teams in this tournament trying to get their players some extra pocket cash. I know Loval's playing it, and in the next couple years they've signed an agreement to play in it. ⁓
starting next year. So this term it's good for college basketball. It's good for the players. It's good for recruiting. It's good for, it's good. I hate that it diminishes the Maui Invitational and the, let's say the, I mean, it's going to diminish the Maui Invitational, the battle for Atlantis tournament. And I miss the old, what'd they call that? The Alaska Anchorage, Great Alaska Shootout.
Nick (15:44)
I it's gonna happen.
That
hasn't been a thing for a long time. Yes, that hasn't been a thing for a long time.
Neil (16:00)
Remember that back in the day? The greatest low-speed out? I mean, you know, it was a long time
ago. But, unfortunately, in the NIL era, the players are getting paid, which is as they deserve, but this tournament is going to pay the champion a couple extra dollars, so you're gonna get better quality of opponents. They're gonna more gravitate toward this Las Vegas tournament than they are the Mauis in the Bahamas. So, better tournament.
We're ready to go.
Nick (16:31)
We're in a different world. mean, it's just, it's all totally different. mean, coaches are recruiting now to see if they can add people for the second half of the season. just recruiting never stops. just, it is what it is. And yeah, you talked about Atlantis. I mean, this is the field for the battle Atlantis, Vandy and WKU, VCU, South Florida, Colorado State, Virginia Tech, Wichita State, St. Mary's.
mean, it's very clear what the top tournament is this year at Face the Week and that's happening in Las Vegas. And like you said, there's a little bit of money on the
Neil (16:58)
Yeah.
Yeah, I mean, I get it. And also, I'm pretty sure it's still an NCAA rule. You can only take one foreign trip every four years. So let's say you played in the battle for Atlantis last year. You can't play in it again for another four years. So why not go to Vegas? Get your players to play for a couple million dollars for your players. It makes sense. It makes sense.
Nick (17:31)
Yeah, and there's been, it's not like there weren't really big games this week. ⁓ Both Tuesday and Wednesday, top 25 matchups. We saw Arizona, Jaden Bradley had 21 points, Co-Pete had 16 as they beat, UConn their first loss of the season. then Alabama beats Illinois at the United Center. And ⁓ I did get to watch the second half of that game after we got home from working the women's game last night.
I'm telling you dude, that game was really fun back and forth. LeBaron Fallon Jr. for Alabama was incredible and really just made shot after shot. think he finished with 24 points. So two really good games last night and then on Monday you had the Champions Classic where, I mean, Michigan State just led from start to finish. Fears almost had a triple double. He finished with 13 assists.
Neil (18:26)
Yeah.
Nick (18:29)
to lead the way for Michigan State. And then Duke took care of Kansas in the nightcap, 78 to 66.
Neil (18:37)
Yeah, I mean, I mean the champions classic is usually like the cream of the crop to start the season. I mean, in most years it's been like what the first first game for most of these teams, second game for most of these teams, pushing it back maybe a week or two. I wish these teams were a full strength. know that Kane's
Nick (18:51)
Well, I mean, they're just starting the season earlier.
Neil (18:53)
They are, yeah, they are. And they are starting the season early. And Kansas was without their star freshman, Peterson, which, you know, if he had played, maybe it's a different story. Kentucky's a little hampered by injuries with Lowe being out, the point guard being out with an injury. Yeah, so, you know, maybe not the teams that we might see down the stretch in March. you know, maybe all four of them would be better. Michigan State shot lights out from three, like...
Nick (19:08)
Thank you.
Neil (19:20)
doubled what their three point output was from the beginning of the season. So I mean, I think all four teams are still going to be fine at the end of the year. Kentucky, I mean, we'll see what happens with them. I know a lot of people are down on Mark Pope based on some of the things he said in his press conferences, but they'll be fine. They'll be fine. It's odd. is odd.
Nick (19:39)
It was just kind of odd really, but it was kind of odd how down he was on his
team. mean, he brought it back with some positivity, saying he's going to get this figured out at the end, but it was just kind of his tone. He kind of seemed defeated already in what we're in week two, week three maybe of the college basketball season. mean, we've talked about it with these teams. You're bringing the top players from
this team, the top player from that team, and then you got to mesh them all together and figure out what your best rotation is. And I mean, some of these teams are going to take more time than others. But they never, they made that one little run in the second half in the first 10 minutes, but Michigan State put their foot on the gas right away and got it back to 20. I mean, it just from start to finish was dominated by the Spartans.
Neil (20:31)
Yeah, I think the Spartans are better than we thought they were. You know, they beat Arkansas last week and John Keller Prey's lead team, Arkansas, that was a top 25 team and they took care of business against Kentucky, led straight, like you said, like from start to finish, we're up by 20 basically most of the way, except maybe the first five minutes. So Michigan State's a good team. Kentucky, I think will be fine as long as they get a little bit healthy and
You know, we'll see what happens at the end of the year, but I think they're all gonna be fine. Like, Mark Pope seems a little dejected now, but I think he'll figure it out. He's got talent.
Nick (21:10)
Well, he might be still rattled from whatever the hell happened before the Louisville game. So might take some time to get that out of his system. I guess we're never going to find out because he was asked about it again, leading up to the Michigan State game and basically said it was nothing, but he'll talk about it when it comes time. So who knows if it will ever come time, but Louisville gets back on the map tomorrow and
playing as Cincinnati team, renewing that rivalry. it's just really good to see those teams playing again after sharing a conference for some sharing different conferences for so many years.
Neil (21:48)
Yeah, no, I mean, I love it. The fans love it. think the fans most importantly love it. Lowell and Cincinnati go back way back in the day, even before the Metro Conference, whatever conference they were in before the Metro, I think they played each other. Then we have the Metro Conference, we have Conference USA, we have the Big East, we have the American Conference for the one year we both ended together. So, like, Lowellville, Cincinnati is a great, great...
Basketball rivalry. It's great football. I mean the football they play for the keg of nails They played forever and then that rivalry so there's a trophy in football, but in basketball I mean what a great rivalry were 90 miles from each other You know like it's it's great. It's great for the sport Usually since now he's good. We're usually good. It's it's it's great for the sport. We're a neutral site this year We're playing a heritage bank arena tomorrow night 630 tune in
And then next year we'll be back in Louisville playing at a neutral site or maybe at home. I have no idea. So we'll be playing back in somewhere in...
Nick (22:49)
Well, it's supposed to be a three mile, right?
Neil (22:52)
I think, maybe, I don't know. That's the plan.
Nick (22:54)
No, that was a part of
this deal. I think they were both not on their home courts.
Neil (23:02)
Yeah, yeah, I mean, if it's in Freedom Hall, it'd be great. think the fans would maybe enjoy the nostalgia, get that caramel corn smell in your nose, maybe a pork producer's pork sandwich from Freedom Hall. So it'd be good. But the fact these two teams are playing again is awesome. And the same with Louisville playing Memphis coming up here. Just getting these old Memphis State, if fans want to call them Memphis State, they can call them Memphis State. I mean, I don't, but.
Nick (23:02)
But just good to see them play again.
Welcome, yeah, welcome everyone.
Neil (23:32)
I know, whatever you want to call them. It's just good for Louisville basketball to get these old rivalries back. The nostalgia of the fans that you're used to, it's great. I love it.
Nick (23:44)
No, it is exciting and it'll be fun on a Friday night to see those two teams square off. I will already be in the Caymans and have to find a way to watch that one tomorrow night. With the 330 shuttle, I'm gonna be in the Caymans by noon tomorrow. So it's wild, what a wild world. ⁓ But then I guess, Yeah, they're.
Neil (24:09)
Are you on Eastern Time? What are you on? Eastern Time? You on Eastern Time
to learn the Caymans?
Nick (24:13)
Yeah, they're on Eastern time.
Getting into the college football schedule, you talked about it off air before we got on. It's kind of the slow week before the final week of the regular season. Not too many top 25 matchups this week. We got Missouri at Oklahoma as Oklahoma looks to just kind of keep that momentum going after getting that big win over Alabama last week. then the big one is USC at Oregon.
Neil (24:24)
Interesting.
Nick (24:44)
This is a game where whoever wins this one, Oregon obviously has a leg up, whoever wins this game could have a chance to get in the playoff. I Oregon is in the playoff right now, but if USC wins, they can see themselves maybe on the verge.
Neil (25:01)
Well, not only the playoff, like this has implications for potentially the Big Ten title game. Because, I mean, I use it. I use it in the playoff, I use it in the Big Ten title game. They're 11-0, they're undefeated in the conference, and they're playing Purdue. Like, what's... I mean, that's big what-if here, come on. Purdue doesn't want a conference game in two years. They have to win the game, sure. Yes, they gotta win the game.
Nick (25:16)
What does that lose to predict? What does that lose to predict?
But they do have to win that game, right? They do have to win that game.
Neil (25:30)
Well, I don't even know that to win the game to get in the big template. No, they don't have anything if they lose to Purdue. I'm not even concerned they know. All right. We're not even we're not saying a scenario in my mind. But let's just say IU wins like they should. Now you've got you got a zero loss Ohio State team and then this game against ⁓ USC in Oregon. Well.
Nick (25:34)
It's time. It's time.
Neil (25:54)
They're both one loss in the conference and Michigan's one loss in the conference. And Michigan at the end of the year plays Ohio State at home. So if Michigan beats Ohio State at the end of the year, then everybody's with one loss. But Michigan has that tie breaking loss to USC. USC beat Michigan early in the year. So if you're Michigan fan, you're rooting for Oregon to beat USC. So it gives USC two losses. So then now you've got.
Michigan with one loss, you've got Oregon with one loss, and you've got Ohio State with no losses going into the final week. Well, Michigan beats Ohio State on their home field, which is possible, right? Possible, not likely, but possible. So now you have a three-way tie between Oregon, Michigan, and Ohio State. I'm not sure of the tiebreakers, but I think it's strength of record maybe, and if Michigan beats Ohio State, it's a
IU in Michigan in Indianapolis on December 6th.
Nick (26:55)
I'm just over here watching you good will hunting it. I'm just seeing numbers pop out of your head.
Neil (26:55)
So it's a big game. It's a big game.
It's a lot of good. There's a lot of things wrong
through my mind right now I know I use in I know I use in but if you're Oregon or USC This is a must-win game for you to get to the title game It's a must-win game It's an elimination game. It's an elimination game It is in a basically it's an elimination
Nick (27:13)
Yeah, like I said, Oregon's got a little more room for error than USMU does. I don't know if, mean, Oregon's not.
Oregon's not eliminated. USC would be eliminated.
Neil (27:26)
Oregon would be eliminated too, I think. Why would you think Oregon's not eliminated?
Nick (27:28)
I don't know. Because
it's still only their, just be their second loss. I mean.
And they're seventh right now, so they're not going to fall. I mean, losing to 15 USC, they're going to fall, obviously, but I wouldn't say it's elimination game for Oregon. It clearly is for USC. But in the week before, where all the games are great, we don't have a lot of good games. This is one to really look forward to.
Neil (27:52)
Yeah, but Alisul, if you're Oregon and you lose the USC at home, this is an elimination game for you.
Nick (27:59)
Well, let me, that's what we're supposed to be doing here is debating, right? Arguing our cases. We can't always agree on stuff.
Neil (28:07)
Because then all of a sudden you're fourth or fifth in the Big Ten, boy.
Nick (28:11)
Yeah. mean, fourth and fifth in the K-10 and fourth and fifth in the SEC, you still got a chance.
Neil (28:13)
I think you're out. think you're out.
Nick (28:18)
I mean, you're not out of it. mean, fifth, it's not going to get in, but at this point of the season, if you're there, you still got a chance. But I don't want to debate like the playoff 12. What I want to talk about is the show.
Neil (28:20)
Maybe. Maybe. You're not out of it, but that's that's a-
No.
Nick (28:35)
The reveal.
Do we need a 30 minute show breaking down where it gives you line by line by line, like it's selection Sunday every single week, and a full minute between reveals?
Neil (28:49)
No, no, no, no.
No, 100 % not. We are so far away from the finished product. I mean, the finished product comes out December 7th, right? The day after a championship. So when we're on November 20th, we've got three weeks? Three weeks? No. Especially since you started this two weeks ago. You started this two weeks ago.
Nick (29:04)
week after. ⁓
It's just, it's so...
Neil (29:21)
Put the top 25 out there and let's go. There's no questions, nobody cares. Like it's gonna look so different between, like between ranking number one and ranking number, what are we, like six or seven down the road, from from ranking one and by the final product, it's about six, seven weeks. We don't need questions, we don't care. Why do we care?
Nick (29:25)
What reason is?
But it's all, it's all just,
it's a television product and they're trying to fill 30 minutes and it's, Rhys Davis is doing his best, great Gumbel impersonation. And it's like, you're like, I don't need, like just list it, just list, list it all. List the top 15 and then list the top 10. Let's get, or get to 12 because.
Neil (29:49)
It is. I know. We don't need that, though.
And they're doing it,
and they're doing it, and they're doing this selection show or the reveal show in between college basketball games. What are we doing?
Nick (30:18)
Right. And that's why they're dragging it.
That's why they're dragging it on because they're trying to fill that 30 minutes in between games. But like I'm watching it. I'm watching it on Tuesday and they get to the top four and you're like, I already know what the top four is. Are they really going to drag out this top four? Like, you know, it's going to be Georgia, Texas, A &M, Indiana, Ohio state. And guess what they did? They just plopped it all out there after doing
Neil (30:27)
How about the college-
Nick (30:47)
Every single one, 25 to five, one at a time, they get to stop four and they're like, here's the four.
Neil (30:54)
Here's what I would do. Tell me if you agree with this or not. Here's what I would do. So when was the first reveal like what, two weeks ago, what's called early November? Halloween-ish? Around Halloween, right? That Halloween weekend, you reveal your top 25, boom, right off the bat. That top 25 on Halloween, done. You give a midway point, maybe mid-November, like two, three weeks later, here's where we're at now.
Nick (31:03)
I think this was the third one. I think this was the third one.
Neil (31:24)
And then, after ⁓ college football championship weekend, the sixth, seventh, whatever, December, that's when you give your final. We need three of them. We need three reveals. We don't need every week. We don't need every week. Just give me three reveals. The beginning, the middle, the end. That's very good story. What every good story has, the beginning, the middle, the end. Right?
Nick (31:49)
Well, I'm fine with it. But even on those shows, I don't want line by line. I don't want, here's 23 and why are there 23? And here's 22 and why are there 23?
Neil (31:57)
No, I would find out follow line. I don't need line by
line every week, but just give me beginning, middle, and give me three weeks in between. Like let's stuff play out. Let's stuff play out. me the beginning, the middle, and the end. You can do your drama and let's reveal the top four or five, 25, whatever it is. I don't care. But we need three shows. We don't need every week. We don't need every week.
Nick (32:22)
But guess what?
Neil (32:23)
We're gonna have it.
Nick (32:24)
It ain't gonna change, because it's all TV.
Neil (32:26)
Even
if it's the basketball season, in the middle of ⁓ the Champions Classic, when four blue bloods are playing basketball, we have to have a football reveal, which didn't change basically from last week. It's fine.
Nick (32:39)
Well, on that point, do you want to do our NFL rankings right now? But we're not going to take a minute and explain it. We're just going to do it.
Neil (32:47)
Yeah, let's go.
No, we're just gonna go through them. I mean, it's changed a lot. I feel like it's changed a lot.
Nick (32:54)
I get first pick this week, right?
Neil (32:57)
You do, and I know who your first week's gonna be and I cannot argue it because you're gonna be 100 % right.
Nick (33:02)
Del A. Rams. I mean, putting it on, making Sam Arnold look normal.
Neil (33:03)
I knew it. I mean, that was the battle of the heart.
That was the battle of our top two teams from last week. So I don't disagree with you. I mean, it's...
Nick (33:15)
So who you going to?
Neil (33:18)
⁓ two?
I'm gonna go with the New England Patriots right now.
9-2 9-2 They're leading division over in the NFC or AFC East over the Buffalo Bills In 9-2, how do you leave them out?
Nick (33:29)
Well,
mean, two isn't leaving them out. It's just picking them second. If you're not leaving them out, it's hot 10.
Neil (33:35)
Well, you cussed
me out for picking a four and five Baltimore Ravens team in the top five last week, so I had to go with the team with the winning record, you know.
Nick (33:45)
Well,
this team is eight and two, they're defending Super Bowl champs, so I'm taking them at two. I know their offense has been a disappointment. The passing game has not gotten going, but they continue to win. So I'm going Eagles at three.
Neil (34:00)
8 and 2 eagles, huh? Nice.
At four, I know Sam Donald threw four picks and I know they looked bad against your number one team but it was still a close game. I'm going with the Seattle Seahawks at number four. I think that's a fluke for Sam Donald. I think the Seahawks are that good. They are a NFC contender and a Super Bowl contender. I'm going with the Seattle Seahawks at number four.
Nick (34:26)
Well, and they're gonna get right this week as they go to Tennessee.
That's your get right game. So at number five.
Neil (34:33)
Everybody's cute, right gang?
Don't do it.
Nick (34:35)
Give me the bills.
Neil (34:36)
Okay, okay.
Nick (34:37)
And I mean, obviously I'm skipping over a couple teams have got a better record, but just their track record is longer. Josh Allen is a better quarterback. I'm going to Bills at five.
Neil (34:49)
So you're going the seven, give me this straight, you're going the seven and three bills when last week you said, ⁓ the eight and two Colts, I couldn't pick, I could never pick a team with the worst record over the Colts because they're eight and two, but you just picked the worst team with a record than the Colts.
Nick (35:09)
I just
explained why I did it.
Neil (35:11)
I know you, I hear you. You know what? Next.
The Baltimore Ravens, they're at 500 now. What are you gonna do about that? What are you gonna do about that? They're back to 500. They're back to 500. I hate the Ravens. I hate the Ravens. But they're five and five, giving the Baltimore Ravens, they're gonna win the Super Bowl. Mark it down. Place your bets. The Baltimore Ravens at five and five are winning the Super Bowl. Put it down. They're my choice. At number, what are we at, five?
Nick (35:18)
my God.
me.
I know if they're going win Super
Bowl, but I do wish I would have bet them to win the North back when they were 1 and 5.
Neil (35:43)
Tell
me a better team than the Baltimore Ravens that's playing better football right now when they're fully healthy than the Baltimore Ravens.
Nick (35:52)
a better team.
Neil (35:53)
Fully healthy, which
they are now. Who's gonna beat the Ravens when they're fully healthy?
Nick (35:56)
I mean, I think several of the tapes that we've already said.
Neil (35:59)
Who? The Patriots?
Nick (36:00)
The Rams?
The Rams? The Eagles?
Neil (36:03)
The Rams. So the Rams are
gonna, well they don't, they won't face them until the Super Bowl. They won't face them until the Super Bowl.
Nick (36:07)
I'm just, did
you say, so just AFC?
So, just AFC, I mean, AFC's way.
Neil (36:14)
You think the Rams
are gonna beat the R- You think a fully healthy Ravens team, the Rams are gonna beat the Ravens? No.
Nick (36:20)
Well,
if we're talking about getting to the Super Bowl, I don't need to be saying the Rams, obviously, because they're not going to get in the way. ⁓ I mean, dude, I still haven't said the Colts or the Broncos. I mean, I would take the Bills over the Ravens.
Neil (36:35)
We all cussed, we didn't even
put the, oh my God. I mean, I'm waiting for you to say the Broncos because the Broncos have the best record in the league and we cussed them out last week because we didn't believe in them. But then they beat the Chiefs.
Nick (36:47)
Yeah, and now we're on pick number seven, right? And now I'm on pick seven, Colts.
Neil (36:49)
I don't get it. Yeah, go ahead.
So you're one, two, three, four, five, yeah, you're on seven, yeah.
Nick (36:59)
I'm
to Colts. You going Broncos here? At eight?
Neil (37:04)
I mean I have to. I have to.
They beat one of the teams that you had in your top 10 last week. I hate the Broncos, because I still don't think they're that good, but they still find ways to win the game. And their defense is a top two, three defense. Their defense is great.
Nick (37:25)
Well, and like we said on Monday, Bonex played really well and made some big plays down the stretch. ⁓ My last pick at nine, what? What'd say?
Neil (37:26)
They hate to pick on me, but they are. They think I'm a instrument.
He did. So yes, I will pick the mic.
I will
pick the Broncos. My pick is the Broncos. I'm picking the Broncos.
Nick (37:44)
So at nine.
Give me the chiefs.
They're still the chiefs. The lions looked terrible last week. It was between either lions or the chiefs.
Neil (37:48)
chief. Yes, chief.
So hold on, you're leaving your guy Baker Mayfield out at 6 and 4. You're the 49ers out at 7 and 4. Okay. You're leaving out the Chargers that are 7 and 4, who are ahead of the Chiefs. You're leaving out the Jacksonville Jaguars that are 6 and 4.
Nick (37:51)
and
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yep. Yep.
Dude, you just picked a raven.
You just picked a raven. And I understand where you're coming from, but that doesn't match up with your logic.
Neil (38:14)
We all know who the Ravens are. We
know who the Ravens are. ⁓ stop it. This is the same kind of crap that you pulled last week on me. As I picked the Ravens with a losing record in the top five, like, ⁓ we can't pick the Ravens because the Colts have a winning record. We can't pick a losing team because they have a winning, or a team that has a winning record. But here you are picking the five and five Kansas City Chiefs over the Pittsburgh Steelers that are six and four.
Nick (38:19)
Would you want to know who the chiefs are?
Neil (38:44)
over the Jacksonville Jaguars that are 6-4, the LA Chargers that are 6-4, or 7-4, sorry, 7-4, over the Green Bay Packers that are 6-3, the Detroit Lions that are 6-4, the Carolina Paints that are 6-5, and the San Francisco 49ers that are 7-4. You're picking a 500 team over about six teams that I just named that have a better record. This is the exact logic that you told me last week. No, stop it.
Nick (38:44)
What do you think? don't think this is stealing.
My man, you're over here.
Neil (39:13)
This is the exact logic that you said I couldn't pick the Ravens last week. No, shut up. You told me I couldn't pick the Ravens last week because they had a losing record over every other team in the league that has a winning record, even though you knew the Ravens were going to beat them. Even though.
Nick (39:13)
You're over to Good Will Hunting again.
I gotta figure out a way in the edit to make just numbers just come out of your head.
Neil (39:33)
I just read it to you. I read it to you.
Nick (39:37)
Who do you have at 10?
Neil (39:38)
So you're one of the five and five chiefs over seven other teams that have a winning record, but you cussed me out for picking the Ravens. Okay, that's fine. You know what? That's fine. You don't know ball, bro. Well, you don't know ball. You don't know ball. Well, you don't know ball. You don't know ball. I'm gonna pick the three and seven Cincinnati Bengals. No, I'm kidding. Hell no.
Nick (39:44)
Yep.
I mean, the whole, we're supposed to argue. We're supposed to argue. It'd be pretty boring if we disagreed on everything. OK.
I'm
Neil (40:03)
Hell no, I'm not picking them. They suck. Alright, now.
Nick (40:05)
Look, I thought we were gonna go to the whole show without talking
about them.
Neil (40:08)
Well, we tried. Had to bring a joke in at some point. ⁓ Even with the lost, my 10th pick, I'm going Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
at 6 and 4. They're leading their division. Wait, don't you write these down? Yup. You have last week's rankings written down.
Nick (40:18)
Well, they've lost three out of four, They're still leading. I mean, that's crap division.
yeah, I have them somewhere.
Probably should have had this prepared. I don't have this prepared.
Neil (40:30)
So who's in, who's out?
Yeah.
You're not a very prepared host, are you?
Nick (40:33)
And I'm not going to go looking for it
on air.
Neil (40:37)
Alright,
well next week we'll have better preparedness.
Nick (40:40)
Yeah, we'll have better preparedness next week. ⁓ So this week we're going, we went rams.
Then we went Patriots? No, Rams, Patriots. Rams? No, you didn't go Seahawks at two.
Neil (40:49)
Yup.
Seahawks. Nope, Seahawks.
Are you sure?
Nick (40:59)
Yes.
Neil (41:00)
Patreon's fine.
Nick (41:02)
And then I went Eagles and then you went Seahawks and then I went Colts and then you went Broncos. Then I went Bills. Then you went Ravens. Then I went Chiefs and you went Bucks. Okay, I think that's right. Is that only eight?
Neil (41:07)
I would pick Seahawks. Okay.
Yeah.
I eat
Nick (41:28)
God, I think it was Ted. I think it was Ted.
Neil (41:28)
I he skipped some people. Oh no.
I he skipped some teams, my guy. He skipped some teams. Do we have to go to the game?
Nick (41:37)
I think it's ⁓ jeez.
⁓
no, we do not. We're not going to put our three listeners through that. ⁓ you know, we talked about Miss Chile a couple of weeks ago, how she won after doing heavy metal, doing heavy metal. So poor Miss Jamaica.
Neil (41:58)
⁓ Miss Limp Bizkit or what we call Miss Corn or Miss Slipknot? Yes, yeah.
Nick (42:08)
So it's Miss Universe right now. So there's like 140 contestants and they're doing preliminary, like the evening gown and it's dark, right? She's doing her little walk in her evening gown and falls face first off the stage. Dude, had to take her off in a stretcher.
Neil (42:15)
Yeah.
Yeah?
⁓ no. Whoa,
whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa,
Nick (42:32)
Yes.
Neil (42:33)
She fell off the stage.
Nick (42:35)
Like
the video is awful like she just straight faceplants
Neil (42:38)
no... ⁓ no...
Like into the crowd?
Nick (42:40)
And I was hoping,
huh? No, like just into a pit. I was hoping that our girl, ⁓ Miss Chile would be competing in the same contest, but she doesn't compete in Miss Universe, but.
Neil (42:44)
into the crowd.
⁓ no.
Nick (42:53)
Yeah, just fell straight. So they took her to the hospital. it wasn't, like I'm not trying to be a funny segment here, but we talked about, yeah, she's fine. No broken bones, but scary incident there. And it was in Thailand. And then you're a Pacers guy. You got the Pacers jersey. What Pacers jerseys you got? You got a Reggie? Who else you got?
Neil (42:59)
Is okay?
Reggie Miller.
Reggie Miller. All-time great. All-time GOAT. Reggie Miller. Number one. All-time.
Nick (43:22)
Is that the only Pacers jersey you got?
I know, but is that the only Pacers jersey you got? I know you got the USA.
Neil (43:27)
I
That's also Reggie Miller. I mean, that is the only Pacers jersey I have. If I had to pick my next two, I would pick Rick Smits and probably Dale Davis, because that was the golden era of the Pacers. The 2000 team that went to the finals in Los Angeles with Kobe and Shaq. I love that team. Maybe even Jalen Rose. I'm picking Jalen Rose.
Nick (43:30)
Yeah.
Yeah. Well, did you see?
So Miles Turner was there for like, what, 10, 11 years?
Neil (43:56)
Yeah, I saw it. I saw it.
Nick (43:58)
And I mean, obviously took him to the finals last year. They had a little dispute over contracts this year and he ends up going to Milwaukee. But
Neil (44:09)
I'm here for the pettings.
Nick (44:10)
But he's been there 10 years, was a huge part of your franchise.
Neil (44:13)
So what?
So what?
Nick (44:17)
And just a random game against the Hornets. They put Isaiah Jackson notched his third double double a season with 16 points and 10 rebounds against Detroit. And then the next sentence for no reason, Miles Turner has yet to notch his first double double of the season. And you're, you're, you're fine with that.
Neil (44:26)
That's right. And miles turn has zero.
I'm here for the pennies, because Miles Turner
kind of talked... Yeah, I am. Because Miles Turner talked a little crap on his way out, even though he was fine for us. In the beginning of his career, he... You know what? He was not... He was fine last year. He was a part of the finals team. But, no, like, Miles Turner... We're bigger than you. The Pacers are bigger than you. And you don't think... What?
Nick (44:56)
Well, they're not acting bigger like that.
They
ain't acting bigger like that. They're in their fields, baby. They're in their fields.
Neil (45:04)
But they are big put that
miles Turner on no no no no miles Turner on his way out acted like he was bigger than Miles turned act like he was bigger than what the Pacers were on his way out and you know what you're not we're fine without you And you want to be petty will be petty too Like get out of here
Nick (45:09)
there are their fills.
I mean, it's fine. Like you don't have to
pay me what he got. I mean, the contract he signed with Milwaukee was like a four year, $107 million deal.
Neil (45:30)
He also wasn't that great,
he, here's Miles Turner's career, it went up, and then it's gone down, down, down, down, down, down.
Nick (45:40)
So he's at the bottom of the roller coaster in his down, down, down career. And Milwaukee's like, hey, we'll give you four years, 107 million for your down, down, down, down, down career.
Neil (45:44)
He's- he's an-
Yeah.
Yeah, again, again, and here's what the Pacers are right, is how many double doubles has he had so far? Zero. Zero. Zero. Isaiah Jackson, how many? Three. Three. Your replacement is playing better than you. The Pacers record? Not great. Guess what? Don't care. Give me a top five draft pick. Give me a top two draft pick. Don't care. Because, well Halliburton's out.
Nick (45:57)
According to the Jumbo, trying to name Indiana zero.
Three.
which
It's also first month of the season.
Neil (46:19)
How does that? Miles Turner was not the reason we got to the finals last year. He's not the reason. He was a small part. He's a small part. Miles Turner thinks he's a big part. He thinks he's this big of a part. He was that small of a part. He's there and he thinks he's here.
Nick (46:20)
Yes.
I mean, he played a role. Played a role.
Well, Turner's not the one putting his name on
the video board.
Miles Turner's not the one putting his name on the video board. They're still thinking about Miles Turner. It's just, it's so stupid petty. Like I, I just.
Neil (46:38)
So what? So what?
We clap back at him, but we're one, the paces are like two and 12, who cares? We're clapping back at Miles Turner, who thinks he's the best taster of all time. My guy, take a seat, take a seat. Take a seat. You're behind your man O'Neal, you're behind Reggie Miller. You can't even sniff Rick Smith's jockstrap. That's how bad, you're fine, but you're behind Rick Smith. And Rick Smith isn't even, ⁓ get out of here.
Nick (46:48)
But like, and also that's another point. You're two and 12.
you just
Did you just say he's behind Reggie Miller? Like you have to tell people
that? You want to make sure people know that he's behind Reggie Miller?
Neil (47:14)
No, Jermaine O'Neal, Rick Smiths,
Dale Davis. You're behind Dale Davis, Rick Smiths, Jermaine O'Neal. You're behind Austin Crozier. You're behind all those guys. Take a seat, learn your role. You were a small part in getting us to the championship last year. There were guys way ahead of you in this thing that made this thing successful. You're not. You were here. Thank you for your loyalty for 10 years, but get out. Get out.
Nick (47:34)
Yes.
What a work
Neil (47:43)
And if you're gonna talk crap about the Pacers on your way out, get out. Nobody cares. And you want you wanna be petty? When we're one and 12, we'll be petty too. Because we have nothing to lose. We're not even in that way, we're one and 12. Halliburton's out for the year. We're gonna get a top 10 draft pick, top five draft pick. We're fine. We're fine without you. Go away.
Nick (48:03)
Well, I'm sure it's clear that they have not forgot about him. ⁓
Neil (48:09)
Well, because he wants to...
He's a chihuahua. He likes these little barks. He barks a little... He barks. Guess what? Get out. You're not a big dog. You're not a big dog. You have zero double doubles. Zero double doubles. Your replacement has three. So go sit down. Go sit down on the bench.
Nick (48:27)
Yeah, that belongs in the game notes, not on the Jumbotron. We need to get you to rice for the game. We need to, you want to go to Texas?
Neil (48:33)
I don't care. I'm fine with it. I'm fine with it. If we're 1 and 12,
why don't we be petty when we're 12? If we're 1 12, let's be petty. Who cares? Go Pacers.
Nick (48:43)
Do you want to go to Texas this weekend? Because I think you would enjoy this. ⁓ Rice. Rice is hosting North Texas. Top 25, North Texas, number 22. They're 9 and 1. ⁓ What? What are you saying?
Neil (48:49)
What's that?
Okay.
No. Wait, what?
North Texas
is in the top 25 in the college football playoff rankings.
Nick (49:04)
They're number 22. So to get fans to the game, which the most fans they've got this year is 30,000. To get fans to the games, they are offering all students a free t-shirt. Well, the first 500 get a free t-shirt. They also are getting like a $15 food truck voucher. There's a competition for whatever.
Neil (49:28)
Whoa whoa
whoa, hold up, hold up, wait, before we go any further, what kind of food truck? What kind of food is this? ⁓ that matters, that matters.
Nick (49:34)
Oh, I don't say. It's called Curbside Eats.
It's called Curbside Eats and True Dog. So maybe it's like hot dogs.
Neil (49:42)
They
kind of- That's okay.
Nick (49:45)
Okay. And then whatever college, so they have 11 different colleges at Rice. Whatever college brings the most students gets like a five, like a speaker for their college and like a $500 gift card. ⁓ They're also doing free Ben and Jerry's ice cream. And then with a valid ID of 21 or over, free booze. There you go.
There you go.
Neil (50:15)
Ha! ears went from here to whoop! Here we go! Hold on now. Free food for how long? long? Wait, wait, whoa, whoa, whoa. So how long is the free food and free booze?
Nick (50:18)
Yes. Well, that's why you sang that for last.
⁓ I mean it doesn't say how long the freeboos last in the article. ⁓
Neil (50:36)
Who is this, Rice? Or Texas?
Nick (50:38)
Rice.
Rice, which is in Texas.
Neil (50:43)
I mean good for rice. Is rice any good? I mean if you're not very good, you get...
Nick (50:46)
What if they didn't do anything like that in Bloomington
to try to get people to come to games? Because I know one person that would have been there with bells on.
Neil (50:54)
Well back in my day when IU football
was really really bad, I I went to the games but a lot of students didn't go to the games because they just wanted to keep drinking in the tailgate. So I mean I get it. But that's a great promotion. Get your students in the game. You know what does it? Food and booze. If you're in college, the two most important, there's two food groups. Food and booze. That's it.
Nick (51:21)
Well,
are you gonna mix ice cream with your booth?
Neil (51:24)
Nope, I could. I'll give it a booze float, a little beer float. I've heard it happen before. I would try it. Would you try it?
Nick (51:25)
Yep.
I mean, a lot of things go with
beer. A lot of things go with beer. don't know if ice cream is one of
Neil (51:35)
I guarantee you if you had some soft serve vanilla ice cream and you put a little beer in there you would eat it.
Nick (51:41)
Well, I'm
not even saying mixing them. I'm just saying drink, drink, lick, lick, lick. Like, just, don't really go together.
Neil (51:48)
You would have
a booze float. You would have a booze float. Would you have a booze float? Would you try it?
Nick (51:53)
Yeah, I would try it. I'm sure it's terrible. ⁓ mean, Coke float, coke float, delicious. Root beer float, delicious. Big red float, delicious.
Neil (51:57)
thing right you would try it don't knock it till you try it
Dr.
Pepper float, delicious, all delicious. Every float you've had is delicious. How about a Coors Light float, a Bud Light float, maybe a Bud Diesel float? You'd like it.
Nick (52:16)
I think we might have to try it. It's gonna be awful. It's gonna be awful.
Neil (52:21)
But if you're all, but is it awful if you've been drinking a couple of diesels at the tailgate and all of you get in the stadium and you're like, I feel like some vanilla ice cream. I also feel like a beer. Why don't we just put them together? You're gonna enjoy it. You'll enjoy it.
Nick (52:33)
Well, how many Rye
students will do that? Because I think it's going to be several.
Neil (52:41)
A lot.
Every single one. Every single one of them. Good for rice. Great promotion.
Nick (52:45)
And how loud is that crowd going to
be?
Neil (52:47)
Very rowdy. Might be some arrests, but that's okay. It's to be expected.
Nick (52:51)
That's okay.
As long as they win, as long as they get people in there, they get butts in the seats.
Neil (52:56)
Is that not the name of the game is get the butts in the seats? That's what we want to do. Make it a rowdy atmosphere for your home team. Create that home field atmosphere. If it requires a vanilla shake with some a Bud Light topper. Let's go. Let's go. Let it be. Let it be.
Nick (53:12)
Let it be. Let it be. Do we need to do that before the next show?
Well, obviously I'm going to be gone for 10 days. But when we get back, we'll try the soft serve beer float and we'll report back before Christmas. Maybe we'll do it live on air. Well, not live, but we'll record it. I like, like speaking of butts in the seats, who will be?
Neil (53:27)
Can't wait.
We should. I'm in. I'm in for that. I'm in for that.
Nick (53:38)
Butts will be in the seats at Thanksgiving dinner at the Roar House on Thursday.
Neil (53:42)
there's a lot of butts. A lot of butts in the seats. know. ⁓ Well, we're just gonna start with our family. We've got myself, my wife Erica, kids, twins, Harper and Bennett. We are going to the in-laws house. We're going to Bruce and Leanne's house over in New Albany. Shout out to Big Bruce Ball. Leanne. Yeah, I got to out Leanne. ⁓ We got... ⁓
Nick (54:02)
Well, you gotta shut up when you do.
You can't just shut up, Bruce.
Neil (54:09)
Well no, Lee Lee, she's equal to Bruce. They're both great, great, the best in-laws you could... Like if, whoever's listening, and I don't know, like the two of you that are listening, if you ever get married, and if you are married, the best in-laws are Bruce Fahl and Lee Inval. I'm telling you. Bruce, pickleball enthusiast, golf enthusiast, sports enthusiast, they're Colts fans, so don't like them that much, but you know, other than that, they're fine.
Nick (54:10)
Yes. Yes. Yes, they are equal.
Well, let's just and let's just.
Okay,
but how important is it to have... It's really important to have in-laws that you enjoy being around. And you're... Yeah.
Neil (54:37)
⁓ We got we got yeah, so other than that we got you
Yeah, you
need in-laws that enjoy what you enjoy. what I enjoy is sports. But what is the key?
Nick (54:54)
Yeah, I'm aware of that. And
I think there's one other thing you enjoy too.
Neil (54:59)
their daughter.
Nick (55:01)
Well, I was going to say booze, yeah, also her daughter.
Neil (55:04)
Yeah, well yeah, alright, booze. Yeah, booze
counts too. Booze counts too. Alright. ⁓ but yes, but there are also IU fans where I graduated from, so we have a lot in common. And then we have Erica's siblings, we got Adam and Derek. I think they're coming in for Thanksgiving. I don't know for sure, but anyways. Erica's fam, we're going over Erica's family ⁓ side's Thanksgiving to Bruce and Leanne's house in New Albany.
Nick (55:09)
Yeah
Neil (55:32)
Gonna be a great time. And then we'll see after that. what about you? You've been to Cayman's. How was your Thanksgiving three weeks early at Bruce and Shirley's house?
Nick (55:39)
Yeah.
It was great. It was great. Just, just me, mom and dad, the sisters, huh?
Neil (55:47)
a hungover a little bit.
Nick (55:50)
the nieces and nephews. Yeah, I did. And yeah, I did. We've talked about this. And then I got up and played golf in the morning. Yeah, it was, it was the early, early wake up call. ⁓ But no, it was a great time. I mean, Thanksgiving food draft real quick.
Neil (55:50)
Stay a little too late the night before.
Yes, I'm in for this. I'm in for this. I got, they're all good. They're all good.
Nick (56:13)
Top four foods? Top four foods?
I
know you can go first pick. You're ugly. Uglier goes first.
Neil (56:21)
I want you to go first. I want you to go first.
Who says I'm uglier? I'm taller. You're shorter. You're shorter. You go first.
Nick (56:28)
Well, that's why I
didn't say tall person goes first. I said the uglier person goes first.
Neil (56:34)
I'll go first. The number one pick in the Thanksgiving draft. Now, hold on, before I, I gotta clarify something. When you, it's proven.
Nick (56:44)
You can do desserts. And you can do desserts.
Neil (56:46)
Well, it deserves to count too. So when you're at Thanksgiving, is Bruce carving the turkey? You have a turkey, Bruce carving it up?
Nick (56:54)
Mom's cars the turkey. Mom's cars the turkey.
Neil (56:55)
You know?
So you have a dark meat side and have a white meat side, right? Part of the turkey. My number one pick, I'm gonna clarify, dark meat turkey. Dark meat turkey is the goat. The absolute goat. Better than chicken, better than ham, better than any other, besides a nice steak at a nice steak restaurant. Dark meat turkey is the goat. Goat meat. I'm going number one pick.
Nick (57:01)
Most yeah, that's how our keys are. Yeah
So you just, are you just eating it straight off? Are you just taking the
leg? Are you just eating the leg?
Neil (57:25)
Well,
I'm taking the drum, I'm taking it all. Give me all the dark meat turkey, number one pick, dark meat turkey. Dark meat turkey with gravy. Can I put a little gravy on?
Nick (57:34)
Well, I mean, you take the gravy and you put on everything, right? ⁓
Neil (57:38)
Well yeah, mean gravy's on every- that is correct. Gravy- gravy goes on everything, yes.
Nick (57:43)
All right. With the with the second pick, team small selects.
stuffing.
Neil (57:49)
I think if I say turnips or something, I'm gonna cuss you out. I'm gonna cuss you out for some turnips.
Nick (57:49)
It's the only time. Also, like, do you call it Stuzzi or you call
it Jesse?
Neil (57:54)
No stuffing. I mean, you stuff it up in your turkey. Now does your family, now, now, there, there, there, there should be...
Nick (57:55)
It's stuffing, Yeah, but you... We don't... don't...
Is stuffing is when you actually stuff it. It's just dressing if you don't.
Neil (58:06)
Yeah, so on my side of the family, growing up, like you put the stuffing, I mean, I never actually did it, but you shove it up in the cavity of the turkey, you put it basically up the butt of the turkey, and you bake it with the turkey in the oven. Yeah, that's why it's called stuffing. Is that what your family does? You bake it with the turkey? You get the turkey juices? What?
Nick (58:16)
Yeah, and that's why it's called stuffing.
That's not done as much anymore, I don't think. No, that's way too much work. No, that's way too much work.
No, I don't think that's how the ovens do it. ⁓ So I guess then in that case, it would be called dressing. But just like you put the gravy on the turkey, you put the...
Neil (58:38)
What we call dressing? No, we
bake the stuffing inside the turkey in the oven. ⁓ that's so good. You gotta do that. You gotta put the dressing or the stuffing in the turkey, bake it in the oven. ⁓
Nick (58:54)
Well, I think we've just figured
out why it's called stuffing is if it's in the turkey and it's dressing if it's not, that's the difference. But they're they're very similar in nature. With with the third pick. With the third pick. Of the 2025 Thanksgiving food draft team small. Selects.
Neil (59:01)
You're missing it.
There you the true reason out.
Oh, we're going,
we're going the, no, oh, oh, it's a snake draft.
Nick (59:17)
Are we doing
snake? We don't have to do snake.
Neil (59:20)
yeah. No, we're gonna stay. We're gonna stay. I'm sorry.
Nick (59:24)
I mean, egg noodles and gravy.
Neil (59:28)
hell is that? Egg noodle egg egg noodles and gravy I need a poll I need a poll on our whatever page we have I need it who knows what the hell egg noodles and gravy are egg noodles and gravy
Nick (59:30)
Just noodles and gravy.
Yep.
I mean, it's just egg noodles.
Egg noodles and you just put gravy on them.
Neil (59:49)
That's not a Thanksgiving food, that's a pasta.
Nick (59:51)
⁓ It's our family tradition.
Neil (59:54)
My god, this isn't
an Italian feast here. Egg noodles and gravy.
Nick (59:59)
All right,
what are you doing with the fourth pick? You going now, you going white meat turkey? Because it's still on the board.
Neil (1:00:03)
I'm doing mashed potatoes.
Give me a classic. The classic, handmade mashed potatoes and gravy. Mashed potatoes and absolute gravy. Give me the mashed potatoes and gravy. Egg noodles. Nobody has egg noodles. Never had egg noodles in my life. don't even know what that, like, what are we, Chinese? This is a Chinese Thanksgiving? Go ahead.
Nick (1:00:14)
Okay? Okay?
Maybe I could have picked it later, but it's one of my faves on the Thanksgiving plate.
Neil (1:00:30)
That's a terrible pick.
That's a third pick. That's a terrible, terrible pick.
Nick (1:00:34)
Alright, so what's
your fifth pick, Mr. Expert? The Mel Kriper of Thanksgiving drafts? What you got?
Neil (1:00:41)
We're going with the old-fashioned cranberry sauce. Give me the cranberry sauce. The relish is good. The canned is good. All forms of cranberry sauce. Great. The canned, the homemade, up, the relish, all of it. Give me the cranberry. Give me the cranberry. Putting it on the turkey. I'm putting it on the potatoes. I'm putting it on the dressing. Mixing it all up. Give me the cranberry. Give me the cranberry. Give it to me.
Nick (1:00:47)
Do you eat?
Do you eat it?
Yes, okay, that was the question. That was the question.
Yes,
you gotta eat it on the turkey.
With my next pick, we'll go sweet potato casserole, sweet potato casserole, and then we'll go, and then we'll go broccoli casserole.
Neil (1:01:15)
green beans, sweet potatoes. I knew that was coming. I that was coming.
Nick (1:01:23)
Yeah, bro.
Neil (1:01:24)
I don't even know who you are anymore, bro. That's a bad pick. Egg noodles is pick three. I can't even come back from that.
Nick (1:01:27)
All right, what's your last pick?
Well, you already have because you picked four and five.
Neil (1:01:36)
Like what's
next, fortune cookies? I'm surprised you picked fortune cookies next. I mean, like what? So the Pilgrims came over from England to seek a better life. ran into the Indians. They all sat down. They ate turkey and stuffing and potatoes and corn and greens. Oh, but hold on, who's got the egg noodles? Where's the egg?
Nick (1:01:41)
What? What's your pick, dude?
You
Neil (1:02:06)
⁓ second joeya, you got the egg noodles back there?
Nick (1:02:10)
I don't know if you can say that.
Neil (1:02:11)
Squanto
as they was squanto. I learned that in school squanto. Squanto's got the eggnoles cooking on the hot fire back there
Nick (1:02:13)
Okay.
Okay, it's good. It's good to know. I'll be there.
Neil (1:02:23)
Egg noodles is pick three. They didn't have egg noodles on the first Thanksgiving. Give me corn. Give me corn as my wife, we were in the last video. Corn on the cob, corn cut off the cob. I don't care. Just give me a thing of corn. Corn casserole, sweet corn, corn on the cob, corn, just corn in a dish. I don't care. Corn belongs at Thanksgiving. It belongs.
Nick (1:02:24)
Yeah. Yeah.
straight up cold. Yeah, that's the last pick.
I don't want any kind of porn.
I don't want corn casserole. I'm out on that. Pumpkin pie or apple pie?
Neil (1:02:50)
Over egg noodle egg noodle egg noodles. What are you doing?
my god, come on. That's an obvious answer.
Nick (1:03:00)
What is it?
Neil (1:03:00)
What?
Nick (1:03:01)
What's the answer?
Neil (1:03:03)
Pumpkin pie is Thanksgiving. The only time you eat pumpkin pie is Thanksgiving. When the hell else do you eat pumpkin pie unless it's Thanksgiving?
Nick (1:03:11)
You don't. But you also have apple pie at Thanksgiving? You also have apple pie at Thanksgiving?
Neil (1:03:13)
What are we talking about then?
No, no, no. You can eat apple pie on the 4th of July. You eat apple pie at your grandma's cookout and every birthday party you ever have. You can eat apple pie at Christmas. Like, no, no, no, no, no. Thanksgiving is reserved for pumpkin pie, and that's it. That is absolutely, and maybe a pecan pie. I don't like pecan pie, but pumpkin pie, pecan pie, apple pie can be saved for the summer.
could be saved for the winter. It could be saved for any other time. But it's not reserved for Thanksgiving. Pumpkin pie, done.
Nick (1:03:51)
Would you...
Do you love it or you just love the tradition of eating it?
Neil (1:03:56)
Love it. Absolutely love it. Love pumpkin pie. Give me a little cool whip on top. A little dab of a cool whip. Take the cool whip and put it right on top.
Nick (1:04:00)
because I don't love it. you got it. No. You got to
have ice cream on it.
Neil (1:04:07)
I mean that's fine too, I could be fine with that, but I'm a cool whip guy, that's fine. I ice cream on apple pie, but on pumpkin pie, I'm fine with that, that's okay. That's okay.
Nick (1:04:08)
Straight up ice cream. Straight up ice cream.
Yeah, next year I'll make sure to save you a little little cup of noodles after our Thanksgiving feast at the Evans House of and put your little granny on it.
Neil (1:04:28)
So you're telling me, so hold
on. So you just had, hold on, you just had the family Thanksgiving at Bruce and Shirley's last Sunday, right? Yeah. So you, what'd so hold on. So you show up, were you responsible for the egg noodles? You show up with like five cans of ramen? You just the ramen in the microwave and dump it in a dish? ⁓ mom, the egg noodles are here, the egg noodles are here. I got five cans of ramen noodles.
Nick (1:04:35)
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Right.
Bro, you know I'm not responsible for anything.
You do know that ramen noodles are not egg noodles. That's two different things. No, they're not. One of them's an egg noodle. One of them's a ramen noodle. I'll bring them to you next year. I'll bring them to you next year.
Neil (1:04:58)
In a
They're about the same. They're the same. I didn't know we were Chinese. Sorry, I didn't know we were Chinese. Well, we're Chinese. I didn't know we were Chinese. Chinese Thanksgiving! You have an orange
chicken? You bit some orange chicken too? I love Chinese food. I love Chinese food, but I didn't know we were doing egg noodles. Egg noodles on Thanksgiving. Okay. That's weird, but that's fine.
Nick (1:05:17)
No, that's more of a Christmas tradition, right? It's more of Christmas tradition.
Thanks to Ralphie, thanks
to Ralphie eating, eating Chinese food on Christmas. became a tradition.
Neil (1:05:33)
Yeah, they cut the head off the duck. Great movie, by the way. 24-hour marathon of the Christmas story. One of my favorite traditions of Christmas. Can't wait for it. I watched it about four times.
Nick (1:05:40)
Yeah.
What else you got? Because I already think we've gone on 20 minutes too long.
So we gotta figure out when we're gonna be able to, huh?
Neil (1:05:52)
Is everything else on a rundown?
Nick (1:05:54)
No, I think we've hit everything. ⁓
Neil (1:05:58)
Wait, I do have a question. I have a question. This was on the rundown and I actually forgot what you said. What's the worst thing you can do to someone without hurting them?
Nick (1:06:09)
Well, and that was just like Jamar Chase spitting on Jalen Ramsey. And you spit on somebody, it's offensive, it's demeaning, but it doesn't actually physically harm them. So.
Neil (1:06:20)
Yeah.
Is that worth the middle finger?
Nick (1:06:26)
it's not in the same category, I don't think. Like, yeah, I mean, I can't think of many things that are as demeaning directly as just, that doesn't hurt them as just spitting on somebody.
Neil (1:06:30)
It's worse.
I think I think of only one thing. One thing comes to mind. Is what if, like what if your best friend or somebody cheats on your girlfriend?
Nick (1:06:52)
Well, yeah, that's, yes. Or your wife, your girlfriend, yeah. That's, yeah.
Neil (1:06:59)
Yeah, that's saying. If somebody
that you know or a friend of yours cheats on your girlfriend or your wife, I think that's probably gotta be worse.
Nick (1:07:08)
Yeah.
Or like if you went out and found another short dude to be friends with and do a podcast called the height differential and I just got bounced. Yeah, that would that would suck. ⁓ Like I was telling you. The less than that's after I do the surgery, when I get up to five to I've already contacted the doctor, we're looking into it. ⁓ But like I told like to me.
Neil (1:07:22)
The less than height differential.
Ha ha ha ha.
Nick (1:07:37)
Like if I'm standing in line, like, and you don't do this much anymore because you don't go into restaurants anymore. It's all just on your app and you pull up and they bring it out to you. So I don't have to really deal with this anymore. But like it's happened once or twice where somebody who's just straight ordered their food straight over top of me.
Neil (1:07:49)
Yep, no I agree with that.
Nick (1:07:55)
And like, they're not hurting you, but that's pretty damn demeaning. And I don't even know if they're doing it on purpose, but.
Neil (1:08:02)
Yeah
But can we get back, also, and this could be a topic for another show, but if you're going through a fast food restaurant and you're not ordering on an app, what are you doing? Nobody just goes into a restaurant or through a drive-through and orders their food. Order on the app, tell them your code, and let's get on with it. We don't need to be sitting in a drive-through waiting for you to order. We'll talk about this another time. Order through the app. I have every app, every food app I can order on, I have it.
Nick (1:08:09)
Yeah, I think it needs.
What are you doing? Yeah.
⁓ You also get better pricing. You also get better pricing.
Well, I mean, nobody would ever say you're a smart person, but you're smart for that.
Neil (1:08:41)
Thank you. I appreciate that.
Nick (1:08:43)
⁓ I don't know when we're going to be able to do the next show. ⁓ Sunday night, we have games at 530 and 730. Monday night, we have games at 530 and 730. So probably will be a Wednesday night show from the Cayman Islands. And we can kind of re go over the action of college football or the weekend and just talk about goofiness like we've done today and do that again. So look at it looking at probably Wednesday.
Neil (1:09:12)
You gonna be shirtless on the beach with a tan?
Nick (1:09:15)
I'm hoping, I'll be for sure at some point I will be shirtless on the beach. Will I have a tan by the time we're doing this next week? Let's hope. And if I get enough requests, maybe we'll take the shirt off in the middle of show and show everybody the tan.
Neil (1:09:32)
Alright, everybody like and subscribe if we get enough and the nicole be shirtless.
Nick (1:09:37)
Like and subscribe. But yeah, like Neil said, make sure you're following us on Apple, Spotify, YouTube, hit the subscribe button. More than any show that we've done, I feel like we have just been talking nonsense for an hour. And I wonder how much Brownies and Baranos had to do with that today. But.
And look here, I will say this too, the height differential is 21 episodes old now. So it can legally drink. It can legally drink.
Neil (1:10:12)
still here.
We're not going anywhere. Hey, we're not even going anywhere.
Nick (1:10:16)
No,
no, we ain't going nowhere. we will be back on no show on Sunday because I'll be busy running the shot clock and having my toes in the sand. Yeah, I'll be able to watch the majority of that game. I mean, by the time they're down by 30, I'll probably have to.
Neil (1:10:27)
Unless the Bengals win? What about the Bengals win?
If the Bengals win,
Nick will be on late night Bengals podcast. If the Bengals win, he's on.
Nick (1:10:41)
I mean, if you wanna do one when I get back
from games on Sunday night, we can talk about it. But I would say more than likely next show is Wednesday. But hey, if you're ready to go on Sunday night, we can go.
Neil (1:10:48)
We need to. If we win.
We go.
Nick (1:10:55)
But I'm ending this before we talk for another 15 minutes and more people. For the 6'6' Neil, it's the 4'10' Nick. We will more than likely talk to you on Wednesday, but maybe, maybe we'll surprise you with a late show on Sunday night. You've listening to the High Differential. We'll talk to you sometime next week.
